The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated Tehran’s call for de-escalation of tensions in Afghanistan and inclusive dialogue among Afghan groups.

In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said Iran is “closely following alarming developments in Afghanistan.”

“Iran calls for immediate de-escalation, respect for rule of law, and inclusive dialogue,” he added.

“Destructive policies of the US have had lingering consequences in our region and now its utterly irresponsible conduct is taking a toll,” the Iranian spokesperson said.

Afghanistan continues to suffer from a recent spike in violence, a legacy of the decades of wars in the impoverished nation, and the US invasion of the country.

Last month, a series of explosions targeted a girl’s school in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul that is predominantly populated by Hazaras. At least 80 students, mostly girls from the Hazara community, were killed in the attack.
