US Open defending Champion Rafael Nadal has decided not to play the tournament later this month because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The 19-time grand slam winner announced on Tuesday that according to complicated health situations around the world he won’t enter the tournament which takes place in New York from the 31st of August.
The United States Tennis Association is hosting a doubles tournament at the Billie Jean King Center. The Cincinnati Masters will begin from the 22nd of August with the US Open taking place immediately afterward.
In addition, the Madrid Open organizers announced that the event has been canceled due to the rise of the Covid-19 cases in the Spanish capital.
The tournament which was scheduled to take place in September was seen as an important event for players to prepare for the French Open which begins on the 27th of September.
Earlier on Tuesday, Spain health ministry reported over 1,000 new Coronavirus infections in the past day mainly in the regions of Madrid and Aragon.
