More than 10,000 people evacuated from conflict zone

Residents of Ak-Sai, Kyzyl-Jol and Kevit villages of Batken and Leilei districts of Batken region have been evacuated to safe places, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

13 special equipment and 156 employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as 60 minibusses, were involved in the evacuation.

1,409 people were evacuated to hotels and schools from Batken district to Batken town. 159 people were evacuated to boarding schools in Isfana town and 8647 people moved to their relatives’ places from Leilek district.

A total of 10,215 people were evacuated.

Tensions on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on April 28-29 and an exchange of fire occurred between the military units of the two sides.

13 Kyrgyz citizens were killed, including a 12-year-old girl. At least 134 Kyrgyzstanis were injured.
