Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has said that forceful deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan is disastrous, adding it risks the lives of many people.
AIHRC stated that among the deported refugees, there are scores of human rights activists, protesting women, prosecutors, former government military personnel and media activists.
Over the past week, Pakistani police through serval search operations, arrested and detained hundreds of Afghan refugees from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other cities in Pakistan.
Following the forceful deportation of hundreds of Afghan refugees, AIHRC asked the Pakistani government to stop detaining, harassing and extraditing Afghan migrants who have been the primary victims of the late regime change, war and political crisis in Afghanistan.
In a statement, AIHRC urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to conduct meaningful discussions with relevant Pakistani government organizations to stop repressing Afghan migrants.
AIHRC said that the special rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, and other influential regional and international organizations should investigate the human rights situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
After the return of the Taliban in August 2021, thousands of Afghans fearing persecution and death threats from the Taliban fled to Pakistan. However, incarceration and forceful deportation of Afghan refugees is a major concern for human rights organizations and refugee advocacy groups.
