Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday he will visit the United Arab Emirates next month.

In an interview with broadcaster NTV, Erdogan said his visit to the UAE on February 14 will represent a new period in ties between two countries as Ankara seeks to thaw relations with Gulf states.

On November 24, Turkey and the UAE signed accords for billions of dollars of investments, including in technology and energy, after talks between Erdogan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohamed’s visit to Ankara, the first in years, comes as the two countries work to mend frayed ties and amid a currency crisis in Turkey.

Sheikh Mohamed said he had had “fruitful” talks with Erdogan on strengthening bilateral ties.

“I look forward to exploring new cooperation opportunities to benefit our two nations and advance our mutual development goals,” he said on Twitter.

Erdogan also said that Israel’s President Isaac Herzog will visit Turkey before mid-February and a new page will be opened in their strained bilateral relations.
