Placement exams will be available on Sunday 27 August for Egyptian students transferring from Russian and Sudanese universities wishing to complete their studies in Egypt, as approved by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour on Wednesday.

Egyptian students previously studying in both countries returned home following the onset of recent conflicts in Russia and Sudan.

The exams will encompass entry to both national and private universities, the minister continued.

According to Acting Secretary of the Council of Private Universities Mohamed Helmy El-Ghar, the exams are open to students holding identification papers from unaccredited universities, as well as students holding no identification papers from their universities at all.

Students of the latter category as well as their guardians will be asked to sign an acknowledgment form confirming their area of study, El-Ghar confirmed.

National and private universities must compile a list of all applicant students who fit the above criteria and send them to the Council of Private and National Universities by 17 August.

Students whose performance is deemed satisfactory will be able to continue their education in Egypt from where they left off. Those not up to examination standards must begin their studies at their appropriate evaluated level.

Students should carefully prepare accordingly, as the exams will only be offered once.

Exams for medicine and pharmacy will be held at Cairo University, while engineering and oral and dental medicine placement exams will be held at Ain Shams, El-Ghar continued. The exams will cover Egyptian curricula in every given discipline.

All exams will take place at 10:00am with the possibility of consecutive sessions owing to the large number of students.

Placement exams for other majors will be held at the universities to which individual students are applying.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education Adel Abdel-Ghaffar assured to all those concerned that a guide will be published soon to answer students’ questions about the placement exam.
